On October 1, the opening event and the first match of the new indoor football league "Media League" took place in the Oskar Kalpak Hall.
At the opening ceremony, the "Media League" traveling cup was solemnly brought into the spotlight, which was greeted with applause by the stands filled with spectators. The audience was also introduced to the teams and players of the first game. Among the visitors were both supporters of both teams and indoor football fans.
"Media League" manager Rihards Romuš says: "Our goal was to create a special atmosphere for both players and spectators - so that this would be a real celebration of indoor football. The project has been cherished for a long time, and it is a pleasure that it finally came to fruition with such an exciting opening game, as the teams began to fight for the title. The game was crazy, full of moments, and the emotions that reigned in the hall were indescribable."
In the first game of the league, the team from Riga "USB/HUSKY" and the team from Iecava "FK LIONS" competed. The game was played in an intense atmosphere, with the teams on the field competing for every goal. The game was fast and dynamic - the teams did not allow each other to relax, attacking and quickly countering the opposing team.
The teams ended the first half with the result 2:1, "FK LIONS" losing to "USB/HUSKY". However, in the second half, FK LIONS quickly bounced back, scoring two goals and gaining a 2:3 lead. This forced the Riga team to fight back and at the end of the game not only equalize the result, but also score the winning goal, ending the game 4:3 in favor of "USB/HUSKY".
Coach Kaspars Grieķeris expresses his joy about the victory of the "USB/HUSKY" team: "It is not a coincidence that we won again: we repeat the alchemy experiment every time, which ends with the same reaction - our victory. A new league does not change anything. Opponents can negotiate with the referee, they can not negotiate, but we know - when the formula is right, the result is inevitable."
"We created a lot of moments, played actively and showed character. Of course, it is bitter that we conceded two goals in the last minute and let the victory slip away, but that's football - sometimes luck is on the opposite side. However, the season is long, and this was just one step on the long road, where we will have many more opportunities to prove our true strength. I especially want to highlight the opening event - it was at a completely different level, which I have not experienced in amateur football until now," says "FK LIONS" team captain Alex Besprozvanny.
