On March 15, 2025, CUT ART will host the opening of the new exhibition "Lyuta vesna – Lost Spring", which will present the works of the well-known American director Cary Yoji Fukunaga, as well as the video work of the Ukrainian artist Tatiana Malinovska.
Cary Yoji Fukunaga (Cary Yoji Fukunaga) is one of the most ambitious masters of modern cinema, known for the films "No Time to Die" (James Bond), the TV series "True Detective", as well as the Oscar-winning project "Victoria para chino".
The project "Lyuta vesna - Lost Spring" was created in 2022, when the director worked as a volunteer in Ukraine. There he captured the shots that have become the basis of this exhibition. The project was presented for the first time at the Leica Gallery in Madrid in 2023. In his photographs, Fukunaga explores the contrasts between loss and the processes of restoration, showing how even in the most difficult times it is possible to find lightness and humanity.
An important part of the exhibition will be Tatjana Malinovska's video work "Silence", presented by CityX Foundation and Kharkiv gallery. Tatjana Malinovska is one of the leading Ukrainian artists who has been developing her creative practice since the NonStopMedia festival in Kharkiv (2003). CityX Foundation cooperates with her in support programs for Ukrainian artists, and in 2025, Malinovska's works were presented at the art fair "Zona Maco" in Mexico City.
The video "Silence" was shown for the first time in Kharkiv in February 2022 - a few days before the start of the war, and in 2023 - at exhibitions in Poland.
This video project tells about lips and silence, which express tenderness, anxiety and the desire to be in dialogue. The work embodies a woman's strength, patience and love, especially in times of war, when these qualities become a source of hope.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on March 15, 2025 in the new CUT ART premises, located in the HOFT project, Strēlnieku street 5, Centra district, Riga, LV-1010. On the opening day, the gallery will be open from 15:00 to 18:00. The exhibition "Lyuta vesna - Lost Spring" will be on display until May 2, 2025.
The exhibition "Lyuta Vesna – Lost Spring" in the CUT ART gallery was created in cooperation with the charity organization Choose Love.
The charity Choose Love is a global movement of compassion, providing everything from lifeboats to food and legal aid. Choose Love ensures that help reaches those who need it most, when they need it most. Since 2015, they have been working with local partners in more than 50 countries to deliver life-changing emergency aid and support to displaced communities with incredible speed and impact. To date, they have raised millions to support refugees, responding urgently and humanely to crises. With more than 122 million people around the world forcibly displaced - almost half of them children - the work of Choose Love is more important than ever. They not only provide help, but also create a world that chooses love for everyone.
The project is supported by "S.Holding", under the leadership of which the residential complex "Sarkanais laukums" is being built on the banks of the Daugava in Riga. The project includes stylish loft spaces with panoramic views, a sports center, office space and a landscaped waterfront that combines comfort, aesthetics and a healthy lifestyle.
