Peter Tong, whose full name is Peter Michael Tong, is a British DJ, producer and long-time host of BBC Radio's Essential Mix and Essential Selection. Billed as a global herald of electronic dance music, Tong is also the head of dance music production at FFRR Records (part of Warner Music Group).
Tong was born in 1960 in Kent, England, where he was also educated. Initially, Pete's musical interests were drums, but he soon turned to DJing, making his first public performance at the age of 15, at a friend's wedding. Later, Tong created his own mobile disco, opened and managed several nightclubs until he became an advertising sales assistant at the music publication "Blues & Soul", followed by a job as an artist selection and repertoire manager at "London Records", which opened the horizons of house music and wide opportunities, including BBC Radio.
Pete Tong is one of the best-known British DJs, gaining a large fan base thanks to his radio show Essential Selection. From 2003 to 2007, Tong was a resident of the Ibiza club "Pacha", in 2008 he signed a contract with the club "Eden" and based on it he created his "Wonderland" concept, which continued for three years. In 2011, however, the DJ announced the return of "Pacha" and a series of new events, "All Gone Pete Tong", as the radio program on the US radio station "iHeartRadio" was later named, which is analogous to Tong's BBC program.
What can we expect from Pete Tong's Riga set? While most DJs play a pre-prepared program, Pete Tong likes to feel and adapt to the mood and preferences of the audience. "I see playing as surfing, and the audience is my waves, with which I always try to be in harmony," reveals Tong.
On February 6th, we will meet at an unforgettable party, where we will learn how Riga sounds and together with one of the world's most famous DJs, we will indulge in the flow of electronic music.
